Curcumin and turmeric are not the same thing.  Unfortunately these terms have been used interchangeably and the truth has been lost. Tumeric is a common spice used in Indian food. Curcumin (curcuma longa) is the most active part of turmeric, but only represents 2-9% of turmeric composition.

So, 2-9% of turmeric is curcumin and curcumin is less than 1% orally bioavailable.  Implying that using turmeric will afford you a therapeutic dosage of curcumin is a gross exaggeration.

Research dictates that 12g (12,000mgs) of curcumin must be taken orally for it to even just be DETECTABLE in your bloodstream, not to achieve therapeutic dosages, just for it to be detectable.  That would mean, just for a detectable dosage,  30 of those 400mg pills every day, which is not only difficult to swallow, literally, it is certainly not cost effective.   One popular online company is selling 60, 400 mg curcumin capsules for $38.00.  You would need to buy 3.5 bottles every week, which totals $133.00/week and $532.00/month for this one supplement. Those 30 pills are still also <1% absorbed.

Supplement Facts

This product is contraindicated in individuals with a known hypersensitivity to phospholipids, or any of the listed ingredients.

If you choose to use this product as a rectal suppository, it is highly recommended you attempt to clear your bowels prior to inserting it to avoid premature evacuation.  To facilitate insertion it is recommended you moisten the product by passing it under a stream of cool water or use a personal lubricant. When used as a suppository, this product requires 15-20 minutes retention to ensure the complete absorption of the bioactive ingredients. This suppository can be inserted in any position. Although not required, if inserted while lying on one’s side, consider remaining in the supine position for 1-3 minutes following insertion. (Always insert flat end of suppository first).
